Account & sign-in
How do I create an account?
Click "Sign up free" in the top navigation, or the free-account banner on the homepage. All you need is an email address and a password – no card required for a free account.
I forgot my password. What should I do?
There is currently no self-service password reset option in the sign-in form. Email hello@trouttips.com from the address on your account for help with account access. Never include your password or payment-card details in your email.
How do I delete my account?
Open the account menu (your avatar in the top right) and select "Delete account." This immediately and permanently removes your favorites, saved flies, river alerts, and subscription record, and cancels any active Pro subscription. This can't be undone.
River alerts & notifications
How do river-condition alerts work?
Free accounts enable alerts by favoriting a river; Pro and trial users enable a watch using the river's alert bell. Pro, including the free trial, includes emails for detected prime flow, adverse flow conditions, temperature warnings, closures and reopenings on watched rivers. Free accounts keep prime-flow emails for up to 2 favorited rivers. Prime-flow push notifications are also supported where the app and notification permissions are available. Alerts reflect detected changes, not continuous monitoring or a guarantee of good or safe fishing.
I'm not receiving alert emails. What should I check?
Check your spam or promotions folder first. Then confirm the river's alert bell is enabled if you're on Pro or a trial, or that the river is still favorited on a free account. Alerts use TroutTips' defined flow and temperature categories, not thresholds you set yourself. An unchanged condition does not generate another email on every check. A known closure or temperature warning suppresses prime-flow emails, even if the flow itself is optimal.
How do I turn off push notifications?
Disable notifications for TroutTips in your iPhone's Settings app at any time. This won't affect email alerts or any other part of the Service.
TroutTips Pro & billing
What does TroutTips Pro include?
Free accounts get prime-flow email alerts for up to 2 favorited rivers and the full Rig of the Day pick for 1 favorited river. Pro adds emails for prime flow, adverse conditions, temperature warnings, closures and reopenings on watched rivers, plus Rig of the Day for all 28 tracked rivers, personalized rig picks, unlimited saved favorites, and the full specs and sources behind every fly recommendation. Pro is $4.99/mo or $29.99/yr. Billing starts seven days after we send your first eligible prime-flow email during the Pro trial, or 30 days after the trial starts, whichever comes first. Later alerts do not extend the trial.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
Open the account menu and select "Manage billing." This takes you to Stripe's secure billing portal, where you can update payment details, change plans, or cancel at any time.
Will I be charged if I cancel during the free trial?
No. Your first prime-flow email starts a seven-day countdown, capped at the original 30-day trial end. For example, an alert on day 2 means billing on day 9; an alert on day 21 means day 28; and an alert on day 27 means day 30. If no prime-flow email is sent, billing starts on day 30. Only an email reporting a watched river in its optimal flow range counts, including one first detected after you enable a watch. Prime-flow emails are suppressed during a known closure or temperature warning. Reopening and other recovery notices do not count. Tough-fishing, low-flow, dry-gauge, water-temperature and closure notices, a signup conditions summary, other summaries and push notifications do not start the clock. Sent means accepted by our email provider, not necessarily delivered to your inbox or read. We will notify you of the scheduled billing date. Cancel before that date from Manage billing and you won't be charged. See trial terms.
Do I receive alerts for tough fishing, low water, temperature or closures?
Yes, on Pro, including during your free trial. Watched-river emails cover detected tough-fishing conditions (including high or low flow), too-low-to-fish and dry-gauge conditions, temperature warnings, closures and reopenings. Adverse and safety emails never start or reset your trial billing countdown. A closure or temperature warning suppresses prime-flow emails until the warning clears; a separate eligible prime-flow email after that can start the countdown. The on-site notices remain free for everyone. Temperature readings are not available at every gauge, and missing or delayed data is not an all-clear. Always check the latest notices and official restrictions before fishing.
Can I get a refund after my trial converts to a paid subscription?
No. Because the free trial gives you a full opportunity to try Pro and cancel before being charged, charges after conversion are final and non-refundable. See our Terms of Service for the complete billing terms.
iOS app
Where can I download the TroutTips app?
The TroutTips iOS app is coming soon. Once it's live on the App Store, you'll be able to search "TroutTips" or use the link on our homepage to download it.
Does the app work offline?
Yes, once you've loaded your favorited rivers with a connection, the app caches that data so you can still view it offline. Live flow updates require a connection.
